Choose a review scope

Focused reviews answer different questions. Every finding needs evidence; a broader review covers more requirements.

Last updated

Review scope determines which questions are examined, not the quality standard. Unchecked requirements remain “Not assessed”; a review never guarantees a readiness level. These scopes apply to researchers, institutes and journals alike.

You choose the scope for each check when you start it in the app: Materials or Materials and workflow today; Reproduction is coming soon. A Materials check marks the L2 requirements “Not assessed in this scope” and awards at most L1.

Materials

Targets L1

Establish the essential materials.

  • Code, input and software availability
  • Access routes and material gaps
  • Cited findings and next actions

Documentation, manuscript consistency, automation and execution are outside this scope.

Materials and workflow

Targets L2 · static

Review the documented research workflow.

  • Everything in Materials
  • Versions, instructions and result mapping
  • Manuscript-to-code consistency
  • Separate automation findings

A static review. It cannot confirm reproduced results.

Reproduction

Targets L3 · Coming soon · Locked

Independently verify the results.

  • Workflow requirements
  • Isolated execution
  • Comparison with declared result targets
  • Execution records and discrepancies

For journals and teams

Set an acceptance policy separately from the review. For example, a journal can require confirmed materials and no unresolved essential manuscript discrepancy. Unchecked areas remain “Not assessed.”
